Lost Wisdom

THIS is a picture of my current painting project. There will soon be a more developed beer bottle in the lower panel. I put my other recent painting above it, and I think I like the two working together like this.

Also, re. the name of the post and the name of this blog_____ if you haven't heard Lost Wisdom, by mount eerie, julie doiron and fred squire yet, find it. I like it!

there were these three ovals...

I am working on three paintings from the same source at the same time. None of them are done yet, but there are a lot of different things I feel about them. I wanted to post this up... any comments on a favorite, or anything, let me know!

ovals!

I have three black ovals. I am painting on them, three from the same image. It will be interesting to see how they are different.

The other is an experiment! A giant collage on this awful industrial fabric that I found.

My friend Ginny has an underwater casing for her camera-- the type that jacques cousteau uses. I cannot wait to take some photos.

Getting feets wet

Here are the two paintings I am working on now. Just trying to get my feet wet.

MCAD!

It's been a while, but I am officially a Minneapolis resident! I have my studio up and running, and so far everything has been going well. My mentor is Howard Oransky... and I am really excited by the conversation we have been having. Here are some photos of my space.

finished paintings

I have a few pieces which I haven't taken finished photos of yet.... until now. Here they are, they are the best I could do with just my point and shoot.

Katie and John

Hi!

I have a show opening tomorrow at JR Kortman Center for Design in Rockford. It's with my twin sister Katie, who is also something of an artist. I thought I would post some snaps of the installation here.

divers

Octopus, Octopus

Last night I watched a Jaques Cousteau film called Octopus, Octopus. Such a weird thing, cause it's not scientific in the least-- most of it is just cousteau spouting off a bunch of his own semi-poetic bullshit to footage of divers bothering otherwise complacent octopi. Some important things I learned-- octopi don't have nests, or dens, but they have "homes". I don't necessarily trust that, but I like it. In fact, I couldn't help but like the whole film, because Cousteau seemed genuinely exhuberant and excited about how BIZAARE the octopi were, despite the fact that he generally didn't seem to know what he was talking about. But then, neither do I! I took photos, some of which are , I think, very beautiful.

new paintings

Hi,

I have two paintings in the works right now. The first is about three quarters done and is a war image. I'm making it for the show I have coming up in August in Illinois, and it's mainly just a fill in the blanks picture. The idea is to make something that is both saleable and in the same language as my war paintings from the fall. Consequently Im not all that invested. The second painting is of the photo I posted last time... an octopus attacking a crab! I'm excited by the prospect of trying something new, I suppose.

Also... One of the other war painting is going to be on exhibition at the Rockford Art Museum in their midwestern biennial, and the opening is this friday, if anyone else is in the neighborhood!
