More Salon Stuff

These are some more photos from the salon experience. The drawing of me below was done by another art major here named Carson Smith. I was never sure how I felt about this drawing of me... but now, it seems that the college has given it a purchase award, so it will hang in the campus center here for time immemorial. I'm now REALLY not sure how I feel about this.


This is the other piece (besides the winning painting and thye drawing pictured below) that got into the salon. It is an oldie but a goodie.

GRAD SCHOOL

I got into MCAD! And I got a scholarship! I'm not sure yet if I want to go or not. We'll just have to wait and see.

In other news...... above are some new drawings I'm showing at my critique on monday.

Recent Drawings (shitty ones!)

I have been doing some drawings recently. These are some photos of them, in progress. They are of animals killed in the war in Africa, either to feed the troops or because the animals were getting in the way. I think this is a really bizarre type of casualty. Also, the middle one is just of some turkeys and a guy. I got tired of dead things for a second.



I think that these drawings are basically pretty unsuccessful. I know there's a better way to do them.. with an "economy of stroke" as they say. Case in point, this painting by Elizabeth Neel (One of the best American painters right now, in my opinion) called Popped Up:

Maybe some day, I'll figure this out. Until then, I will scrape around on paper some more.

New Drawings

A new brace of drawings... actually not new, sorry! I've been busy. These were products of the late semester squeeze. Red Soldier and Walking Wounded are their titles, both graphite and tempra on mylar.

War Drawings

As an extension of my painting project, I have been doing drawings about war on mylar with graphite. I use tempra paint on the reverse side, so it seems to glow through from the back.

Portraits: Eight of Them

Last month, eight Grinnell art students put on a show titled Portraits, Eight of Them in the student gallery. This was my submission of my roomate, Thomas F. Agran.
